In Order. What Will You Do?
These three chapters were a tough read. Jeremiah is relaying messages from the Lord and they are not easy ones. He is crying out to God’s people asking them why it is that the Lord is basically not enough for them. There is one verse that stands out among all of them in these chapters, one that will sucker punch you and knock the wind out you, a verse that calls us out as Christians.
Jeremiah 5:31
The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way.
But what will you do in the end?
Every day, things of this world, things that are not from God, surround us. There are countless other religions we could choose from, religions that make people feel good, or ones that they can manipulate to accommodate the lifestyle that they want. There is freedom in this country for us to choose how we want to live our lives, which is an incredible gift, and one that should not be taken lightly. But read that verse again.
We have fallen in love with the way of this world because we can manipulate anything and everything to make us feel good about our way of life. We don’t need God when we have everything that we want. When everything is going the way we want, who needs him? The prophets and the priests lie to the people, telling them exactly what they want to hear and not what the Lord has told them they need to hear.
How many times have we been going through life comfortable with where we are; not leaning on the Lord or trusting him because hey we got this, everything is running smoothly, no need to disturb the big man upstairs. How many times have we stubbornly said that we can do it on our own? And yes, we may be able to survive day to day, we may be living life pretty comfortably, so what more could God do for us when we have everything we need and want? Unfortunately that is the problem with where we are today. We almost don’t have a need for a god. Our jobs, our families, our money have all replaced who God is supposed to be to us. We fill that hole with other things.
We as Christians are called to be different from this world, we are different. We have a relationship with our Heavenly Father, it is not just a religion, it is a relationship. So here is the big question, what will you do in the end?
What will you do combat these lies that are being spread? What are you going to do to show the world that if you follow the Lord, life becomes so much sweeter and a purpose is given to your life? What will you do?
