In Order. Three Simple Words

June 3, 2017. Proverbs 1-3

In Order. Three Simple Words.

Solomon, just like his father David, has a way with words.  He also has a way of telling you what you need to hear whether you want to hear it or not.  Everyday when you wake up you have two choices, you are either going to live your life with God at the center or not. Solomon points both of these options out for us in these three chapters and lets us know what the consequences will be for either one.

2:9 Then you will understand what is right and just
    and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
    and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
    and understanding will guard you.

He makes it pretty clear what path should be taken, but that is not always the easiest for us.  We tend to follow what the world wants us to see and think is right.  We are bombarded daily with news and politics and ideas that don’t allows line up with the Christian view and we question it.  Yet God’s word clearly states what is right and wrong. He has given us this knowledge but we do not always want to follow his instruction.

1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
    but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
    from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

2: 9 Then you will understand what is right and just
    and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
    and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
    and understanding will guard you.

It is so easy, God has not made it difficult for us to follow him, and we are the ones who make it seem hard.  In Proverbs 3 it states it simply:

3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.

Trust the Lord. Three simple words, but one very hard task for us accomplish. That is all that we need to do, to completely trust him with every aspect of our lives.  No excuses, just complete and total trust.  Faith that he has what is best for our lives in mind when things seem to be going down a path we may not have chosen, faith that he is going before us.  It is easier said than done at times, but in reality it would be a whole lot easier for us if we would just give up our own stubbornness and trusted the one who created us.  Do you really think he would want to do anything to harm us? He sacrificed his only son for our lives, and all he asks for in return is to trust in him completely.
