In Order. Shhh ... Listen

December 21, 2017. Hebrews 1-6.

Have you ever had an issue, decision, or question you asked God to weigh in on but you just could not figure out how to hear from Him?

How God Speaks

(Hebrews 1:1-3) In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

The word of God is full of history and lessons, but it is also the primary avenue God uses to communicate with His people.  It is so important to

Listening

You can however hear and read without actually listening.

(Hebrews 2:1) We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

Make sure you are being sensitive to what the Holy Spirit is trying to communicate to you.

Having Faith

Once you have heard and understood what the Lord is asking of you, you have a choice; to obey or not.  Just know that if you are asking the Lord to reveal something to you, He will.  Are you prepared to hear the response?

(Hebrews 3:7-8) “Today, if you hear his voice,
    do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion,
during the time of testing in the wilderness,

When the Israelites were in the wilderness, God gave them opportunity after opportunity but because their trust in Him waivered, they rebelled time and again and ended up worse for wear on more than one occasion.  Trust that God has a divine and holy plan, even for your life.  Have faith that He does keep His promises.

Continued Growth

Once you have the response you were looking for, that does not really justify putting down the Bible until next time you need it.  God is constantly trying to speak to you.

(Hebrews 5:12-14)  In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

God is so relational.  He wants to hear from you and for you to hear Him.  Read and really listen this week.  See what changes happen in your life.
