March 20, 2017. Deuteronomy 28-29.

 

When our children were little, we used to sing a song that talked about obedience. Some of the words were, “obedience is the very best way to show that you believe…” 

And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God: (Deuteronomy 28:2) NKJV

God’s blessings are dependent on diligent obedience, not only for the nation of Israel, but for us today. The blessings of God will “overtake” (or seek and find) those who choose to be obedient. His blessings are not simply a reward for godly living but a gift from a loving Father. Nor are life’s blessings measured by who we are but by who God is. Blessings are experienced in different ways, protection, salvation, and provision are some of God’s blessing to us. Blessings of God are not the end, but the outcome of obedience for the purpose of glorifying God!

But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statues which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake (or seek and find) you: (Deuteronomy 28:15) NKJV

If God’s commandments are not kept, we come short of the blessing promised, and we lay ourselves under the curse, which is as much misery, as the blessing is about happiness. 

Do you find yourself running to God who is just, and merciful, or running away from Him? When we follow and obey the laws or rules God has given us, we see how perfect God is. None of His rules hurt anyone or anything. Instead everyone and everything flourishes. God designed the planet purposely to flourish under His law and order. God’s rules have to be kept if we are to live peaceful, abundant and happy lives. If we go outside His boundaries, it is known as sin. 

The secret things belong to the LORD your God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (Deuteronomy 29:29) NKJV 

God’s revealed will is for those who believe, to carry out. Why not respond to the Lord’s guidelines for your life with a childlike-obedient-heart?

So as this simple song goes…..

O-b-e-d-i-e-n-c-e is doing exactly what the Lord commands, 

Doing it happily.

Action is the key-do it immediately, 

Joy you will receive. 

Obedience is the very best way to show that you believe.

We want to live pure we want to live clean.

We want to do our best.
