In Order. Know.

August 28. Ezekiel 5 – 8.

God’s goal for you is always the same… That you will know Him, that you will realize that He alone is God, and know what He is doing in your life.

You have most likely used this phrase or at the very least heard some form of this statement made: “we can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way.” That is much like what is happening here in Ezekiel 5 – 8. God’s people seemed to have completely turned their backs on Him and have replaced Him and His ways with the ways, customs and even religions of the world around them. (Ezekiel 8:9-17). So now God has to use some very hard ways to get them to realize who He is and what He is doing. They will learn of Him through these hard times that they must now face.

Since the beginning of creation, it has always been in God’s heart to have a relation with His creation. Early in His creation, He would walk in the garden with Adam and Eve and talk with them. And even today, He speaks to you through His creation (Romans 1:20, Job 12:7-9).

God speaks in gentle and subtle ways, and He speaks in thunderous, powerful ways. Then there are times when He will let you sit in silence so that perhaps you will realize how lonely it can be without Him in your life. No matter what God is doing it has the same desire – know Him! Learn of Him! Finally, realize and acknowledge He is Who He says He is and He will do what He says He will do.

6:7 Then, at last, you will know I am the Lord.

6:10 They will realize that I alone am God

6:13 you will realize that I alone am God.

6:14 Then you will know I am the Lord.

7:4 and you shall know I am the Lord.

7:9 and you will know that I, the Lord, am doing it.

7:27 They shall learn that I am the Lord.

Know God. Know Peace. No God. No Peace. You can change that second phrase to reflect many other benefits of knowing God. Know God. Know Love. Know God. Know Purpose. Know God. Know Hope. And the opposite is true.

So has it come to the hard way for God to be able to get your attention and learn of Him? Fight to stay sensitive and responsive to His Spirit moving, teaching and guiding you through this life. It did not have to be the hard way for Israel in the book of Ezekiel, but the people weren’t listening to anything else. Stop for a moment today and listen for God’s direction and His voice. Trust Him. Acknowledge Him. Follow Him. Know Him.
