In Order. His Goodness Restores My Soul
May 26, 2017. Psalm 131, 138-139, 143-145.
God has been so good to me lately in restoring my soul. When I read these Psalms nothing but goodness jumped off the pages to me. I share these thoughts from a grateful soul that is being restored to spiritual health.
Psalm 131
1 Lord, my heart is not proud; my eyes are not haughty. I don’t concern myself with matters too great or too awesome for me to grasp.
2 Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself, like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk.Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.
3 O Israel, put your hope in the Lord—now and always.
One of the things that God has used to restore my soul is He taught me to right size myself. I am not the answer to everything, I don’t understand everything, nor do I have to be the greatest ever. He has taught me to “calm down” and enjoy Him, like a weaned child. Not struggling to get what he no longer needs but content in what he has. Be content with Christ He is all you need today.
Psalm 138.7-8
7 Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will protect me from the anger of my enemies.
You reach out your hand, and the power of your right hand saves me.
8 The Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me.
My anxieties about how God is going to do in my life what he promised to do does not help God do in my life what He promised. In fact I have learned that God delights in the impossible circumstances and obstacles that we fret so much about. Nothing stops God’s plan for my life even my trouble. Don’t worry today what others are doing that is against you, rejoice in what God is doing for you no matter what others may do to cause you trouble.
Psalm 139
17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand. And when I wake up, you are still with me!
God thinks more about me than I could ever think of myself. This helps keep me from pride. No matter how good pride wants me to pretend to others that I am, it is paltry compared to what God thinks of me! Just the way I am today God is totally pleased with me and has plans for me that go beyond what my pride could ever conjure up in my self absorbed mind. It matters not what we think about God but it really matters what God thinks about us for it changes the way we think about God! Start today by asking God to let you know how much he thinks about you. I guarantee you it is much better than what you think about yourself or the lie pride has led you to believe.
Psalm 145.8-9 (The Message)
8 God is all mercy and grace-not quick to anger, is rich in love.
9 God is good to one and all; everything he does is suffused with grace.
Finally, God has convinced me that He is truly gracious and loving toward me. That puts wind in the sails of my soul and allows me to see all that happens in my life as “suffused with grace”!
“Heavenly Father thank you for loving me today. I choose to believe that what ever happens today you are using it to bring about your precious plan for me. Help my Holy Spirit to trust in the Fathers promises and not to focus on the things my enemies may attempt to do to me. Protect me God! I choose to see all that I experience today as saturated with your grace to me!”
