In Order. Hardened Hearts
We go through life sharing our beliefs, our thoughts, and ideas with others. We cannot help but share, some times when we do not even realize it we are sharing a piece of who we are and what we believe and think. But what about those times when it matters most?
What about those times when we know we are called to share our beliefs and our personal walk with the Lord, we are not as quick to share. At times it almost seems pointless to share what an amazing gift it is to follow Christ, only because we know it is going to fall on deaf ears, or we already know the feelings the person has towards those thoughts. Aaron and Moses know this feeling all to well, but look at what they were told and did in response.
Exodus 7:1 Then the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet. 2 You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country.3 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt, 4 he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites. 5 And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.” 6 Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord commanded them. 7 Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.
From the very they knew that what they were sharing was going to fall on deaf ears and knew that what they were saying was not going to be listened to. Here is the thing though, what did they do in spite of already knowing this? “Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord commanded.” No hesitation, no questioning, they just did it. God already knew the outcome, but He needed the Egyptians to know that he is and was Lord.
Ask yourself this, who is that you have been avoiding to share this precious gift with? Who is that you have not shared your beliefs and ideas with because you are afraid they will not listen to you? In the end, the Egyptians did come to recognize who was Lord, it took being reminded and plagues to finally come to that conclusion, but eventually they did. Do not give up when it comes to sharing the love of God and his gift to us, their hearts may be hardened now, but plant the seed and see how God uses you. You may not see the full picture, but it is in His control.
