In Order. Gentle Reminder
How many times have you seen God’s hand clearly in your life? Seen his blessing and known that it was clearly His hand on you? Why is it then we still tend to doubt him? Question Him? Need reminding of who He is?
In Deuteronomy 11 Moses is reminding the Israelites what they saw with their own eyes and to continue to hold fast to the Lord. He reminds them of what they saw, the plagues He performed against the Egyptians, the power the Lord displayed with the Red Sea, the earth swallowing Dathan and Abiram, and so much more. And yet they need reminding.
Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always. 2 Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the Lord your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm; 3 the signs he performed and the things he did in the heart of Egypt, both to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his whole country; 4 what he did to the Egyptian army, to its horses and chariots, how he overwhelmed them with the waters of the Red Sea[a] as they were pursuing you, and how the Lord brought lasting ruin on them. 5 It was not your children who saw what he did for you in the wilderness until you arrived at this place, 6 and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth right in the middle of all Israel and swallowed them up with their households, their tents and every living thing that belonged to them. 7 But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the Lord has done.
The Lord has made it simple for us to follow him, 11:22 “If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow - to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways and to hold fast to him –“ and again in chapter 13 verse 4 “It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.”
We are sinful people. We were born into sin and continue to sin daily. Daily we must refresh our hearts and minds to focus on the Lord and his commands. Daily we must step out in faith and trust the Lord. We may see our Lord clearly at times and not question His plan for our lives, and then other times we may need that gentle reminder that He is still with us. We have an awesome and powerful God who loves us with a love we will never fully understand and it is ok to need that reminder on occasion, even the Israelites who saw His power first hand needed a reminder. However, remember to continue to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways and hold fast to him.
