In Order. Carry Us

Carry Us

Isaiah 44-48

God’s people from the beginning of their existence had sinned against the God of Israel. (Isaiah 43:27) Your first father sinned, and your mediators have transgressed against Me. But we see they remained God’s chosen and upright people.

God is warning them against any tendency of idol worship. The idols of Babylon that He spoke of would all have to be carried and loaded on cattle or carriages for transport. This was definitely an added burden to the already weary animal when traveling. (Isaiah 46:1) Bel bows down, Nebo stoops; their idols were on the beasts and on the cattle. Your carriages were heavily loaded, a burden to the weary beast.

The great I Am however is a huge contrast to these false gods. He alone does not require man to “carry Him”! Rather He makes our burden light and He desires to carry us and deliver us, from the time of our birth until we are old in age and with gray hair. (Isaiah 46:3)

Because of our sinful nature we too can be so easily drawn to things that claim our mind, time, monies, and relationships in an all-consuming way. We would do ourselves a helpful favor in lining up our first priorities with the ways of the LORD!!

What things or “idols” have you been carrying about? Are they making you weary and to feel as if you can’t move forward with freedom?

But how do we move in that direction, in a world that tells, calls, and pressures us to do the opposite?

(Isaiah 48:17) Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go.

Just like the children of Israel we are called to remember Who God is! We should take time to reflect on what the LORD has done in our lives. Yes, even in the moments of being stubborn, and rebellious, in our need to control the details of our days.

He is our loving teacher and He’s given us the road map to follow for our good, the Bible. He set guidelines for us when He gave His commandments that are for our good!

The LORD desires peace and righteousness for us! Let’s run toward those things, and run away from anything that robs us of a right way of living in peace!

(Isaiah 48:18) Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

Let’s live each new day for Christ, and be 0n alert of any false idols!

We have a choice to be carried by a loving Savior, or to carry those heavy things that were never meant for us from the start!
