In Order. The Order

December 28. Revelation 1 – 5

As this chronological reading of God’s word nears the end, reflect for a moment on the title of this series of devotional thoughts for these readings – In Order. The book of Revelation is bringing to light the end of God’s order of His divine plan for His creation and everything in it.

This book of Revelation is a revelation of Jesus Christ. The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) along with the book of Acts, clearly introduced Jesus with his first advent, and record a description and insight into his life, death, resurrection and a short period of time following his resurrection. This book of Revelation provides insight into what Jesus has been doing since the book of Acts and what his next actions will be that will lead to his second advent and the end of God’s order being fulfilled.

1:1 This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants the events that must soon take place. He sent an angel to present this revelation to his servant John, who faithfully reported everything he saw. This is his report of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

This truth, that Revelation is about Christ and from Christ offers great hope for ordering your life. God starts something and He finishes it. God never quits, in spite of all the seemingly unexpected plot twists, interruptions, failures, conflicts, apparent set-backs etc. God never quits the plan. He finishes it.

Look at what Christ says about himself in verse eight of chapter one:

“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,”[e] says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”

He is the beginning and the end. There is the order for your life. If you desire your life to have order, purpose, and direction then it must begin and end with Jesus. And as true as the testimony of God finishing what He started with His creation, God will also finish what He has started for your life, in spite of all the twists and turns, and bumps and bruises, God can bring your life into order through your relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ.

God’s word has been written for you, preserved in your language, and made available to you so that you might discover His Son and His plan for your life. You are a big deal for God! Since the beginning and until the end, just as He thought of His Son, God has thought of you and has included you into His glorious plan and end-game.

The beginning and the end – Jesus Christ. A very deep truth, yet so very simple and easy to apply to your life today. Begin your day with Jesus. End your day with Jesus. Set your course within the framework of his character and his example. Discover his order for your life.
